Final Project - The Clock
Designer Notebook
Flower Boxes
I created the flower boxes in Inventor. Then I used Makerbot to set it up for the 3D printers. I needed four of them and each box took about 2.5 hours to print.
Clock Back
I created the back in Inventor and then uploaded and set it up in Fusion 360.
I used 1/2" plywood that my dad had and cut it to size at home. To cut it to a circle, I used the router. We had to screw the plywood to the table of the router so it wouldn't move. After cutting it out, I sanded the surface and edges of the clock back.
Numbers
It was somewhat difficult to line the numbers up well in Illustrator. I had to align all the numbers at first then rotate them to make sure they were even. I then went to the laser and engraved them into my clock back. (the numbers are hard to see in the Illustrator image... they are there just very faint!)
Final Clock
So Mrs. Proctor we had a little situation... haha. I put the clock together so that it would meet the requirements, but I'm going to take it apart again and paint it and make it look all pretty once I have more time!
What I learned...
I had a lot of fun with this project! It taught me how to use the machines in a freer manner. Using the machines for what I envision helps me understand what else I can do with the machines. When I just follow instructions I feel like I get into a mindset where that machine can only do what we learned it can do. In reality most of the machines can do lots more and this project helped me see and realize this.
